SA: Fringe provides a boost to SA

The South Australian government says more than 900 thousand people attended the Adelaide
Fringe arts festival this year .. providing a 40 million dollar boost to the state's economy.

The Minister Assisting in the Arts .. JOHN HILL .. says the figures have revealed the
overwhelming success of the Fringe .. and vindicates the recent decision to make it an
annual instead of a biennial event.





A survey of festival-goers has also revealed interstate or international visitors made
up 26 per cent of audiences.

They spent up to one thousand dollars each .. usually staying about 12 nights in Adelaide.

Next year's Fringe will run from March 8 to 31.
