NT: Darwin cyclone watch cancelled

Darwin has escaped the fury of category three Cyclone Debbie today after the storm
weakened to a rain depression.

Earlier today the Bureau of Meteorology dropped the cyclone watch for the Northern
Territory after Debbie was downgraded to a rain depression with below gale force winds.

Over land about 100 kilometres north of Jabiru in the Top End, Debbie is continuing
to move south at 15 kilometres an hour.

The Bureau says Debbie is still expected to cause localised flooding and significant
stream rises across the Top End, with strong wind gusts expected for the Arnhem, Darwin
and Daly districts.
