Qld: Teachers urged to keep views on private schooling private

Outgoing Queensland Teachers' Union president IAN MACKIE says state school teachers
who send their own children to private schools and brag about it are guilty of an offence
as serious as financial misappropriation.

In his last report to the Queensland Teachers' Journal, Mr MACKIE says he is often
confronted by members who feel obliged to confess they send their own children to private
schools.

He says their favourite explanations are right of choice, single-sex schools, security,
religion and isolation.

Mr MACKIE says he doesn't care about personal decisions, but he says such action is

undermining the state schools by public school employees and is a failure to promote
the state system.
