Vic: Six people taken to hospital after lightning strike

Six people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries after lightning struck a
soccer field in Melbourne's north.

Ambulance spokesman PAUL HOLMAN says the six people were at the ground on the corner
of Chappell and Thomas Streets in Thomastown when the lightning bolt struck.

They received minor injuries after mostly suffering tingling sensations through their
body and feet.

Mr HOLMAN says three of them were taken to the Northern Hospital, while the other three
were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Weather Bureau spokesman WARD ROONEY says there was some quite spectacular lightning
activity around Melbourne this afternoon and the six people are very lucky to be alive.
