Qld: British detectives in Brisbane to talk to Lions
BRISBANE, April 25 AAP - A number of Brisbane Lions AFL players are expected to be
interviewed tomorrow by two British detectives over an alleged rape last October in London.
The detectives arrived in Brisbane yesterday and the team is expected to return from
Perth tomorrow after their Anzac day clash against Fremantle.
A club spokesman said the club would make no statement on the allegations.
New Scotland Yard has been investigating a complaint by a Brisbane woman, in her early
20s, that she was raped by a player after she met him and other team mates at a West London
hotel in October 6 last year.
A number of Lions players were in London last October for an end-of-season trip to
the Rugby World Cup.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed the two detectives from London arrived in
Brisbane yesterday.
In today's Courier-Mail Lions coach Leigh Matthews said the situation was "less than
ideal" for the players.
"We always knew they (the British police) might turn up eventually, and eventually
is about to be here," he said.
