Members of Local 58 of the United Paperworkers International Union employed by the Chase Packaging Corp. are striking the company, following the expiration of a three- year contract.
Christopher Jackman, vice president and regional director of the union, said Wednesday the strike was prompted by concern over workers' wages and company policies.
Mario Scarselletta, a regional union representative advising the local, was unavailable Wednesday for comment on the issues dividing workers and management.
Jackman said the plant's workers decided to strike by a 134- to 45-vote.
