QUEENS HOUSE FIRE LEAVES MAN DEAD, 1 INJURED.(CAPITAL REGION)

NEW YORK -- A 76-year-old man died and another man was injured Monday in a fire at a private house in Queens, the fire department said.

The fire erupted at 8:28 a.m. on the first floor of the two-story house, on 60th Street and 68th Road on the Maspeth-Ridgewood border.

The 76-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, said fire department spokesman Jack Thompson. The other man, identified only as 40 years old, suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, he said.

Their names were not immediately known.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Thompson said. It was declared under control at 9:15 a.m.
